Fresh look, practical tools, and expert insight – here’s what’s new this month

Hi there,

We’ve made a few changes this month, and we’re excited to share them with you.

You might have spotted our glow up on LinkedIn, but it’s not just about appearance. We’re also shifting the way we connect with you – with more regular updates, helpful resources, and thought leadership tailored to the challenges you face in your role.

This is the first of our refreshed newsletters, designed to keep you in the loop with what we’re doing, what’s available to you, and how we can support your work in a practical and professional way.

Here’s what’s been happening in June…

Our new ADR Mediation Membership – made for people working with conflict

Whether you’re a mediator, housing professional, team leader or HR advisor, you know that resolving conflict takes more than good intentions. It takes skill, structure, and support.

That’s why we’ve created the ADR Mediation Membership – a space where you can access practical tools, specialist training, and guidance that fits the reality of your role.

Here’s what’s already inside – with additions to the content being added regularly:

  • Toolkits and templates ready to use with teams or clients
  • On-demand guidance for common challenges
  • Expert-led training sessions you can access anytime
  • Peer learning from people who understand the work

New this month: Our guest training from Green & Burton ASB Associates focuses on Neighbour Disputes – a common and often complex area of practice. Their session explores risk, communication, and how to keep outcomes fair and balanced when community tensions are high.

Thought leadership: Housing investment is not just about homes

A £39 billion investment in affordable and social housing sounds like good news for the sector – and it is. But as our MD Kim Logan outlines in her latest article, the real impact will be felt in how providers support people, not just properties.

Kim shares her frontline perspective on what this investment could mean for housing teams, tenant relationships, and the growing pressure on services to mediate, manage and resolve rising tensions in communities.

“When relationships break down between tenants, or between tenants and staff, it’s often the housing officers who are left to hold it all. They need more than policy. They need proper support and tools.”

Why most employment tribunals could be avoided – and what needs to change

A recent article in Personnel Today featuring Pete Colby from Pragmatism has sparked important conversations across the employment and mediation sectors. His view? That most employment tribunals could be avoided if organisations had the skills, confidence and leadership culture to deal with conflict early and informally.

At ADR Mediation, we couldn’t agree more.

Colby argues that:

  • Most organisations say they will resolve issues informally, but don’t have the skills or structures to actually do it
  • Managers are not trained or supported to have the difficult conversations that matter
  • HR teams often default to formal processes out of fear of legal risk
  • And ultimately, the tribunal system is overloaded because we’re not addressing the root cause: unresolved conflict at work

He makes a compelling case for what we advocate every day – that early intervention, proper workplace mediation, and confident leadership can drastically reduce the emotional and financial cost of conflict.
It’s well worth a read if you work in HR, lead a team, or support people through workplace issues. You can read the full article here – and if it sparks thoughts or questions about how your organisation manages disputes, we’re here to help.

What kind of training do we offer? Practical, people-focused, and built around real conflict

At ADR Mediation, our training is designed to do more than tick a box. Whether you’re supporting others through conflict, leading a team, or looking to deepen your own confidence, our courses are rooted in real-life challenges and practical tools you can use straight away.

Here’s a quick overview of the types of training we offer:

Restorative Practice Courses

Our Level 1 courses help teams across education, the workplace and the criminal justice system to embed restorative approaches. Whether you’re working with students, staff or service users, we focus on building trust, improving communication, and dealing with conflict in constructive ways.
We also offer standalone courses like Restorative Circles, where you’ll learn to create safe, inclusive spaces for open dialogue and connection – ideal for team building, change management or community repair.

Mediation Training

Our Interpersonal Mediation course is for those ready to step into a formal mediator role. It provides a thorough foundation in conflict theory, mediator skills, and structured practice – with the option to gain OCN accreditation.

For those already trained, our Mediation Refresher is a practical one-day session to revisit core principles and sharpen your skills.

Workplace Support Skills

Sometimes it’s not about formal mediation, but about handling tricky conversations and supporting others well. That’s where our shorter courses come in:

  • Preparing for Challenging Conversations – learn how to approach difficult discussions with clarity and confidence
  • Conflict Coaching – support others through conflict using coaching tools and frameworks
  • Harmony on the Frontline – designed for those in public-facing roles who regularly navigate tense or high-pressure situations

All our sessions are delivered by experienced trainers who understand the pressures and realities of working in conflict-affected settings.

Everything we do at ADR Mediation is designed to help you feel more equipped, more confident, and more connected in your work. Whether through training, resources or direct support, we’re always here to help you make a positive difference.
