Baby Beat is a charity that helps parents when they need it most. With the vital support of the local community and businesses, Baby Beat raises funds for babies, mums and mums-to-be cared for by the maternity units and the Neonatal Intensive Care Units of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Their inspiring work helps families who have suffered during pregnancy, during birth or after baby has arrived. To show you how much people have benefitted from the work Baby Beat does, we want to share a story with you.
Kirsten Duckworth from Cottam was happy to share with us how Baby Beat helped her and her family during their times of need.
Kirsten’s Story
Kirsten and husband Michael have a very personal link with Baby Beat, following the care that the wonderful clinical staff at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have provided for the family.
Kirsten’s eldest daughter Kaitlynn was born in 2007 by emergency c-section. She was very poorly following her birth and spent the first few weeks of her life being cared for on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Thankfully Kaitlynn is now a very healthy 14-year-old!
11 years later, in early 2019, Kirsten and Michael welcomed baby Maisie into the world after their consultant’s decision to perform a caesarean at 37 weeks.
Sadly, later that same year, the couple suffered the heartbreak of a late miscarriage when pregnant with third daughter Millie. The maternity bereavement team supported them throughout this very difficult time.
When the couple found out they were pregnant again not too long after their loss, the team at the Trust referred them straight to their Rainbow Clinic. Kirsten and Michael were overjoyed to safely welcome fourth daughter Emmie into their family in October 2020.
Kirsten said: “The Rainbow Team did everything to support me during pregnancy, not just physically but mentally, through the pandemic too when I couldn’t have Michael with me. Other than losing Millie, pregnancy after our loss was the hardest thing I’ve done, and I honestly can’t thank the whole team enough… Lauren, who was Millie’s midwife, placed Emmie Faith into our arms just less than a year after we left Millie with her.”
How Baby Beat Helps
In addition to raising funds for families in need, Baby Beat funds specialist equipment, patient services and comforts, clinical care, local research and training. Everything is additional and complementary to what the NHS provides and it makes a real difference to families from across Lancashire and South Cumbria when they need it most. Without Baby Beat’s involvement, the same quality of care and support may not have been available to families like Kristen’s.
We Want To Help
At ADR Mediation we’re very close to Baby Beat and want to support them as much as we can. That’s why we’ve shared this story – to highlight the importance of their work.
As a local business we want to help raise money for Baby Beat so they can keep doing what they’re doing in supporting the Trust and families.
We’ve organised a night of food, fun and fundraising for them on 23rd June 2023 at Preston Golf Club and we would love to see you there!
